How Often Should a Wood Front Door Be Refinished in Florida?
In direct Florida sun, inspect the finish twice a year and expect to refresh it as often as every year; under a deep porch it can go considerably longer. Refresh at the first dull or chalky patch, before bare wood shows.

Signs It's Time
- Dull, chalky or rough patches on the sunny side
- Hairline cracks or peeling at the bottom rail
- Grey wood showing through
- Water no longer beading
Which Finishes Hold Up
Marine-grade film finishes (spar varnishes with UV absorbers) protect longest but must be refreshed before they crack. Penetrating oils are easier to renew but need it more often. Either way the top and bottom edges must be sealed too. See wood front door refinishing.
